(New York, NY - August 31, 2024)-- Back to Hogwarts (September 1st) is an important day in the world of Harry Potter. It's the day that students return to the magical school for a full year of mayhem, challenges, and adventures. It's also a day when fans across the globe gather, raise their wands, and celebrate the Harry Potter franchise.
For the first time ever, the Back to Hogwarts extravaganza debuted at Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall in New York City. From August 30th through September 1st, fans in New York City who reserved free, timed-entry tickets were able to attend the spellbinding event featuring LEGO®, customized letter, magical performances, interactive experiences, shopping, and photo opportunities at Vanderbilt Hall inside the iconic Grand Central Terminal.
A magical performance featured several casts from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. Karen James Woditsch (Headmistress of Hogwarts) and Edward Hyland (Dumbledore) welcomed fans to explore the magical world of Harry Potter, and join one of the four the Hogwarts houses-- Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Gryffindor, or Hufflepuff.
Courtesy of Harry Potter New York, wands, merchandise, and the iconic Butterbeer are available for purchase at the event. The Philosopher's Stone wand is an exclusive item, only available for the duration of the pop-up.
Countdown Moment
On September 1st at 10:30am, BookTok creator Kierra Lewis hosted a live countdown celebration. Fans who are unable to attend in-person were able to check @HarryPotter and follow along online. Actress Bonnie Wright (portrayed Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter films) made a surprise appearance to join the celebration of Back to Hogwarts Day with New York City attendees.

Starting September 1st, SnapChat users will have access to two new Back to Hogwarts Lenses, inspired by the famous Sorting Hat and Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions from the Harry Potter series.
From August 26th through September 9th, fans in New York City, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro will be able to see the iconic train appear on screen with a backdrop of the five iconic landmarks-- Grand Central Terminal, the Hachiko Statue, The Eiffel Tower, Copacabana Fort, and The National Gallery.
