(New York, NY, November 9, 2024)-- This year's Rockefeller Center Tree arrived at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. Marking it the 93rd anniversary of New York City's most iconic holiday tradition.
The Norway Spruce originated from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, making it the first tree from Massachusetts to be chosen as the Rockefeller Center centerpiece since 1959. It's approximately 70 years old, stands 74 feet tall, 43 feet wide, and weighs 11 tons. On November 7, the Norway Spruce was cut down and transported on a flatbed truck from Massachusetts to New York City.
Over 50,000 multi-colored LED lights will stretch over approximately 5 mile wire to adorn the Tree. A 9-foot, 900-pound Swarovski star will be placed at the top of the Tree, which is covered in 3 million crystals.
As part of the celebration of the Rockefeller Center Tree arrival, visitors enjoyed family festivities including book readings with McNally Jackson, complimentary cookies from Chip City, a visit from Santa Claus and his elves, and drawings by caricature artists.
The Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, starting at 7 p.m. EST. NBC's "Christmas in Rockefeller" will be broadcasted live on TV, and available to watch on Peacock and wherever viewers can stream NBC 4 New York.
Following the ceremony, the tree will be lit every day from 5 a.m. to midnight though mid-January 2025 (excluding Christmas Eve). On Christmas Eve, the Tree will be lit for 24 hours.
Upon conclusion of the 2024-2025 holiday season, the tree will milled into lumber, and donated to Habitat for Humanity.
